PROGRAM OBJECTIVE - This program is designed to give the property owner advanced information regarding the potential for contamination of his well by septic system effluent. Nitrates and nitrites are normal by-products formed during the break down of domestic sewage. Compared to other cations, anions and bacteria, nitrates are highly mobile through the soil matrix. If there is any indication the septic system and leach field effluent are contaminating or may contaminate the well this series should be run one to two times per year.
